These are tough times for theological education. You don’t need us to tell you that! As we’ve mentioned, we are looking forward to a provocative keynote address at Karam Forum on how our schools can adapt to a world of radically digitalizing, globalizing, pluralizing cultural environments.
But you know makes schools work? Educators.
And if this is a tough time for schools, it’s a really tough time for educators.

So at Karam Forum 2022, we’re not just going to collaborate on how schools can thrive in a changing world. How can educators thrive, given all we’re facing? How do we maintain a healthy and well-formed sense of our own vocations, under all the deforming pressures we’re subjected to?
Thankfully, when we needed someone who’s an expert in “making work matter” in “a changing world,” we didn’t have far to look. If you memorize the contents of the ON newsletter – and really, who doesn’t? – then you already know Karam Fellowship board member Michaela O’Donnell, newly elevated to the title of executive director of the De Pree Center at Fuller, literally wrote the book on this subject.

And when Michaela looked around for someone to help her put together a Karam Forum session on vocation for educators, she also didn’t have to look far. Meryl Herr, who recently joined the full-time staff of the De Pree Center, has a long track record on these issues as well. (Which, again, you know if you memorize the contents of the ON newsletter.)
We’re excited to hand the Karam Forum mic to Michaela and Meryl for what we anticipate will be a rewarding collaboration.

Amos Yong will give our keynote address, on how our schools can find new opportunities amid the challenges of digitalization, globalization and pluralization by relying on the Holy Spirit. Discussion will follow with Fernando Tamara, Philip Thompson and more.
Denise Daniels of Wheaton College will help us explore what’s emerging in the world of Christian entrepreneurship, as God’s people find new ways of bringing life to the world. This will include an exciting conversation with Denver entrepreneur Helen Young Hayes, former powerhouse executive at global investment fund Janus and now founder of ActivateWork, which helps marginalized workers succeed. Kara Martin of Alphacrucis College continues to lead our annual Global Session, in which colleagues from around the world join us via Zoom. We always discover rich insights by hearing about what the Holy Spirit is doing among our global peers in theological education. This year we’ll feature colleagues from Africa and South America.
And Jeff Hoffmeyer of the Denver Institute for Faith and Work will introduce us to local ministries embodying the mission of God in Denver. Wherever Karam Forum goes, we’re always honored to yield the stage to the people who are building the future of Christian community and mission on the ground in those places.
