This spring, we’ll be offering webinars you won’t want to miss to members of Karam Fellowship, carrying the conversation forward from our Karam Forum gathering. First, on January 18 at 1:30-2:30 central time (2:30 eastern/11:30 Pacific) join the discussion with Chris Brooks, David French, Michael Wear and Jules Martinez-Olivieri on how the church can navigate today’s intense political passions. Later in the spring we’ll welcome leaders from Eventide and others to discuss theological perspectives on modern finance, and convene a conversation about the church’s economic witness. That’s on top of all the other great benefits of joining as a supporter of our community.

You know what else you won’t want to miss? Our series of beautiful bookmarks, commemorating five years of Karam Forum with inspirational quotes from our stage. This special gift is only available if you become a Founding Supporter by joining Karam Fellowship before Nov. 19.

Oh, and of course you should register today to be part of Karam Forum on Nov. 18-19 if you haven’t already! You can get inspired and equipped with us either in Ft. Worth or via Zoom.

Spring Webinar Series for Karam Fellowship Members

It turns out Zoom meetings can be stimulating and catalytic – who knew?

Building of the success of last year’s spring series of webinars, as well as this year’s fall webinar on Entrepreneurship and Theological Education, we’re looking forward to bringing you another spring webinar series. We’ll be building on sessions at Karam Forum to keep the conversation going, because none of these issues is going to be exhausted in a single discussion.

First, we’ll be bringing together Chris Brooks, David French, Michael Wear and the Fellowship’s own board member Jules Martinez-Olivieri to navigate the difficult but unavoidable tensions of today’s politics. In a passionately polarized world, there’s no avoiding the 800 pound gorilla in the room; these days, it truly does sit wherever it wants to. We’ll explore how the church can bear witness for justice and stay rooted in discipleship to Christ, while building bridges that unite cultural groups, in environments that make this even more challenging than it always was.

That webinar will take place on January 18 at 1:30-2:30 central time (2:30 eastern/11:30 Pacific). Mark your calendars now!

Later this spring, we’ll connect with leaders from Eventide, a Christian investment firm with $9 billion in assets, as well as other guests from the financial world we’re working to convene. We’ll dig into the tough theological challenges raised by the systems of modern finance. With a vision of “Investing that Makes the World Rejoice” (yes, you are hearing echoes of Amy Sherman in that phrase), Eventide has gone beyond the basics, such as not investing in companies with clear ethical flags, to develop a broader, theologically-formed account of what it means for a company to genuinely “create value” for people.

One of our biggest sessions at Karam Forum 2021 is going to be on justice in church history. We’ll hear about Gregory of Nyssa’s witness against slavery, the early Reformers’ support for church-supported economic development, and how the Wesleyan movement navigated the simultaneously liberating and challenging forces of the Industrial Revolution. This spring, we’ll follow up with a webinar on the church’s economic witness, building more connection points between these historical cases and our present concerns. Watch future newsletters for details.

A Special Gift if You Join by Nov. 19

Our first spring webinar will be exclusive for Karam Fellowship members. We’re still developing the other two spring webinars; watch this newsletter for updates on their status. But if you want to support our work, we’d be grateful for your joining as a member of Karam Fellowship.

If you join before Nov. 19, you will be one of our Founding Supporters, and we have a one-of-a-kind gift to show our appreciation for our one-of-a-kind community. Everyone who joins by Nov. 19 will receive our series of beautiful bookmarks, commemorating inspirational, profound and provocative moments from five years of Karam Forum presentations.
