As we step into the new year, we often welcome resolutions and reflections. We look at the year behind, and cast hopes and goals into the new year – and even the new decade – ahead.

This fall, the Theology of Work Project launched a new podcast, Making It Work, in partnership with The Max De Pree Center for Leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary. We hope it will help you, your students or your congregation cast goals for the next decade of the 21st century.

In season one of the podcast, the guests talk with co-hosts Leah Archibald (TOW) and Mark Roberts (DePree) about some of work’s biggest challenges: experiencing God’s presence at work, calling, work-life boundaries, speaking up, maintaining integrity and imposter syndrome. The episodes are aimed at workplace Christians and are a great resource to share for listening anywhere. They are each between 30-40 minutes long, and easily accessible on mobile from our podcast homepage. Interviewees include pastors, popular authors and other faith and work movement leaders.

In our recent conversation with Denise Daniels and Shannon Vanderwaker we explored the notion of the workplace as holy ground. Denise and Shannon talked the listeners through spiritual practices such as the liturgy of commute and the faith offering of surrendering the calendar.

Another popular life audit, or conversation with God, that tends to come up in January is the topic of calling. In episode three we spoke with Nicholas Pearce, who shared his personal experiences and mentoring insights on the topic of vocation and a personal sense of calling.  He pointedly asks: “What wakes you up in the morning? What’s your why? Have you discovered your why, your reason for being? Not your reason for doing, but your reason for being. You’re a human being, not a human doing. What’s your reason for being?”

Encourage those you mentor, pastor or teach to put some space for these practices and questions on your calendar – and plan to join them in connecting with God in day to day work in 2020. Join us in this ongoing exploration as we invite God into work’s biggest challenges in the Making it Work podcast.
